Support for those who help others

Do you help someone who would struggle without you? Learn more about how our Extra Care services could help you and those you support.

Across the North West, over 480,000 people are providing unpaid care to family members living with long-term health needs. Our partners at ‘Signpost for Carers’ tell us most people are unlikely to recognise themselves as an unpaid carer and are missing out on lots of support they could be entitled too, so we’ve created this page especially for you.

Not sure if you’re in the right place? If you help to support anyone, even if it’s a few hours a week and they live in a separate household, who would struggle without you, then this information is for you!

How can Electricity North West support unpaid carers?

Our free Extra Care register

Our Extra Care register provides dedicated services for households looking for a little extra help and support before, during or after a power outage. The power cut may be planned in advance when we are working to improve your network supply or, unexpected, as the result of a power failure.

As someone who others rely on, we understand the greater impact a power outage may have, both on you and those you care for. That’s why our Extra Care register offers flexibility to meet your needs…

Sign up someone you care for

Did you know that you can sign up someone you care for to the Extra Care register without a power of attorney? We’ve simplified our processes to make sure our Extra Care support is easily accessible to anyone needing a little Extra Care. You can even update their details too if circumstances or contact details change.
