Armed Forces support

Hi, I joined the company in March 2022 following a full career in the British Army.  As part of my resettlement and transition into civilian life I completed a qualification with the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) to compliment the health and safety qualifications I gained during my service.  As a safety advisor, I provide support to colleagues on general safety enquiries and help with incident investigations.  As a team we aim to develop a proactive attitude to safety, health and environmental matters by advising and encouraging a positive safety culture across the organisation.

I manage a team of up to 12 people who are responsible for keeping electricity substations free from weeds and other vegetation which has a habit of becoming overgrown and untidy, so they remain safe for our engineers and aesthetically pleasing for our customers.

I left the Armed Forces in 2015 after a 22-year career as a Royal Military Police Officer.  I found the transmission to 'Civvy Street' a challenge to say at least, mainly because I didn't want to continue a career in law enforcement, struggling to work out where my next career move was.

I work at their Training Academy in Blackburn where I primarily administer the network authorisation process for our engineers and contractors.

In my spare time, I’m also a Cadet Forces Adult Volunteer with the RAF Air Cadets and have been for the past 8 years. I currently volunteer at 1301 (Fleetwood) Squadron and I’m also the First Aid Training Officer for Cumbria & Lancashire where I am responsible for delivering and overseeing first aid training for both staff and cadets across the two counties.

Thanks to SP ENW’s additional 10 days of leave for Reservists and CFAVs, I’m able to take part and help deliver our annual residential summer camps. These camps offer cadets valuable, sometimes once-in-a-lifetime experiences and give staff the chance to grow and develop too.

I joined SPENW in May 2022 after serving five years in the British Army as an Electronic Warfare & Signals Intelligence Operator. Moving into a Customer Performance Analyst role felt like a natural step, as it allowed me to apply the skills I’d developed during my military career. Day to day,

I work with data sets to identify opportunities to improve performance, using tools like Microsoft Excel and Power BI. More recently, I became part of the Armed Forces CRG to connect with others who share similar experiences, which has been a great way to stay grounded in that community.
