Plug in Solar
Since 27 August 2026, plug‑in solar panels have been available to buy in the UK. These small, portable panels generate electricity and feed it into your home through a normal plug socket. The power they produce helps run your everyday appliances, and you can easily take the panels with you if you move home.
Plug-in solar panels are small-scale solar systems designed to connect directly to a standard UK household socket (the use of extension cables is not permitted). These products are being introduced as part of wider efforts to reduce energy bills, improve access to renewable energy, and support the transition to low-carbon energy systems.
What do I need to do with plug-in solar?
Registering your plug- in solar
You’re legally required to register any plug-in solar panel devices before you use them in the UK. You can register using the UK plug-in solar website. Before you register, you’ll need, your name, your postcode and the make and model of the device

Considerations when buying plug-in solar
Make sure the specific model you’re looking at is on the list of devices that meet UK standards. You can look for your model on the ENA (Energy Networks Association) Connect Direct LCT device register.
