Voltage Management on Low Voltage Busbars

Voltage Management on Low Voltage Busbars

This project explored the potential to use alternative technical solutions for controlling voltage on low voltage (LV) networks, to help manage increased load and generation. We installed and monitored various solutions on the network including power quality filters, Power Perfectors, distribution transformers, tap changers and LV capacitors.

Our findings were used by the University of Manchester to model the effects of deploying this technology on our future LV network. This will help us identify and assess the practicality of deploying the technology on the network and when and where to use the different equipment to solve voltage problems. This project was completed at the end of 2013.
