We’re replacing 5.8km of aging oil-filled electricity cables between our Whitegate and Greenhill Substations in Oldham with modern, solid aluminium cables. This upgrade will improve the reliability of your electricity supply and reduce the risk of environmental damage from oil leaks.
The existing cables are aging and pose a risk of oil leaks into local watercourses. This upgrade supports our long-term goal to remove oil-assisted cables from our network by 2040 and helps us meet national environmental and reliability targets.

We aim to keep any power interruptions to a minimum. If a planned outage is required, we’ll notify you at least 48 hours in advance.
Yes. Temporary roadworks will take place along key routes including Manchester Road (A62), Chamber Road, and Woodstock Street. We’re working closely with Oldham Council to reduce disruption and keep traffic flowing.
We’re coordinating with local schools and businesses to ensure safe access and minimal disruption, especially around Chamber Road, Goddard Street, and Woodstock Street.

The project commenced in July 2025 and is expected to finish by November 2026.
We’ll start at our Whitegate depot and move toward Greenhill. This approach gives residents in Glodwick more time before any disruption begins, following previous long-term road closures in the area.
