Eastlands
We're delivering the largest ever investment in the North West’s power network, investing over £1bn between 2023 and 2028 – including a programme of key projects across Greater Manchester.
We're committed to maintaining and improving the network through our capital investment programme
As part of our Manchester Development Plan, a £2.5m investment will see upgrades carried out on the power network in the Eastlands area of Manchester.
As part of our capital investment programme, this project will see the installation of an additional, third transformer and underground cable for the 33,000-volt high-voltage power network as well as new switch housing asset. This work will almost double the capacity of the local power network to enable more low carbon technologies to connect to the network as we become more reliable on electricity and as the city continues to grow and develop and the population rises.
Once complete, local homes and businesses are expected to benefit from the new and improved infrastructure.
- This £2.5m investment will future-proof Eastland’s electricity infrastructure and improve resilience and reliability
- The project supports our commitment to reinforcing the network and futureproofing for increased demand from low carbon technologies
- We are working closely with Manchester City Council to coordinate works and minimise disruption
- Road closures and diversions may be necessary but will be carefully planned and communicated in advance in collaboration with local authorities. There are no planned supply interruptions as part of this project
- We are committed to keeping residents, businesses, and commuters informed every step of the way.
Work is expected to be completed in May 2026. All work has been agreed with the local authorities and we have hand delivered letters to customers with details of any traffic management.
