Healey investment
We're delivering the largest ever investment in the North West’s power network, investing over £1bn between 2023 and 2028 – including a £33m programme of key projects across Lancashire.
We're committed to maintaining and improving the network through our capital investment programme
Engineers will commence work in January 2026 on a project which will see £1.1m worth of upgrades carried out with old, ageing infrastructure replaced with modern alternatives.
As part of our capital investment programme, 3.6km of underground electricity cables will be replaced.
The work taking place on the 33,000-volt network will future-proof the network between Hall Street and Healey and the surrounding area whilst also enhancing reliability, resilience and enabling more low carbon technologies like heat pumps and electric vehicle charging.
Once complete, thousands of homes and businesses are expected to benefit from the new and improved infrastructure.
- The project supports our commitment to reinforcing the network and futureproofing for increased demand from low carbon technologies
- We are working closely with Lancashire County Council to coordinate work and minimise disruption
- Traffic Management will be necessary but will be carefully planned and communicated in advance in collaboration with Lancashire County Council
- We are committed to keeping residents, businesses, and commuters informed every step of the way.
Engineers will replace three high-voltage circuits from our substation in Gale. The work is necessary to replace ageing components that have been identified as having a poor fault history. This replacement will improve the reliability of the power supply in the local area in addition to increasing the capacity on the power network.
Work will commence on Saturday 7 February 2026 on Whitworth Road at the junction of Holstein Avenue before progressing on to Shawclough Road at the junction of Market Street and Shawclough Way.
Two road closures will be in place to allow engineers to work in the road safely on a section of Albert Street from 2 March 2026 to 13 March 2026 from the junction of Market Street and from the junction of Market Street to Oakenshaw View from 5 March 2026 to 15 March 2026.
Access will be maintained for pedestrians, cyclists and emergency vehicles at all times.
Work is due to be completed summer 2026, all work has been agreed with the local authorities, and we are hand delivering letters to customers with details of the work and any traffic management.
