We’re installing a new 33,000-volt electricity cable between Burnley and Nelson Bulk Supply Points (BSPs). This interconnector will strengthen the local power network and support the replacement of key electrical equipment at Nelson BSP.
The project will help manage outage risks and improve the reliability of electricity supply in the area. It supports the reinforcement and reliability of the network and replacement of crucial assets, ensuring the network is fit for the future as there is more demand for electricity and connection to low carbon technolgies such as electric vehicle charges and heat pumps.
The work is being delivered by our trusted partners Network Plus, our framework cable installation contractor, along with our trusted partners EI&T for electrical equipment installation.
We aim to keep any power interruptions to a minimum. If a planned outage is required, we’ll notify you at least 48 hours in advance.
Yes. Temporary traffic management, including road closures, will be in place in parts of Nelson, particularly in densely populated areas near the town centre. We’re working closely with Lancashire County Council (LCC) to minimise disruption.
We’re coordinating with key stakeholders including Burnley General Hospital, Network Rail, and local councils to ensure access and safety are maintained throughout the works.
