We’re installing new 33,000-volt electricity cable circuits between Stuart Street, Monsall, and Queens Park substations. This work supports the regeneration of Manchester’s Northern Gateway area, enabling future residential development and improving the resilience of the local electricity network.
Manchester City Council and its partners are redeveloping the Northern Gateway area. To support this growth, Electricity North West is reinforcing the electricity network with new infrastructure, including a new transformer at Queens Park and upgraded switchgear at Stuart Street.
The project is being delivered by Electricity North West, with our trusted partners:
Network Plus handling cable installation
William Pye managing civil works for the new substation
EI&T contractors installing electrical equipment
We aim to minimise any disruption. If a planned outage is required, we’ll notify you at least 48 hours in advance and provide support, including extra support for customers who require extra care.
Yes. Some disruption is expected as we work through Queens Park, Monsall, and surrounding areas. We’re working closely with Manchester City Council to minimise traffic impacts and keep roads open wherever possible.
We’re coordinating with local businesses, schools, and services to maintain access and minimise disruption. Alternative routes will be clearly signposted where needed.
We’re here to help. If you or someone you know needs extra support during the works, please contact us so we can provide tailored assistance. You can visit our Extra Care web pages for lots of help and information, and sign up to our Extra Care Register.
The project began in April 2024 and is expected to complete by March 2026. Phase 1 and 2 of the cable duct installation are already complete. Transformer installation at Queens Park completed in January 2025.
