Northern Gateway investment

£5m Northern Gateway investment

Electricity North West is embarking on the largest ever investment in the North West’s power network, investing over £2bn between 2023 and 2028 – including a £32m programme of key projects across Greater Manchester.

We're committed to maintaining and improving the network through our capital investment programme

Engineers are nearing completion of work which will see £5m worth of upgrades carried out on the power network in the Northern Gateway area of Manchester.

As part of our capital investment programme, these works will establish a 33,000kW underground cable installation between Stuart Street substation, Monsall, and the delivery of a new primary substation at Queens Park in Collyhurst.

The project supports Manchester City Council and FECIL in delivering residential redevlopment in the Northern Gateway area of Manchester.

Once complete, local homes and businesses are expected to benefit from the new and improved infrastructure along with supporting the regeneration of the area.

  • This £5m investment will enable residential redevolpment in the Northern Gateway area
  • The project supports ENWL’s commitment to reinforcing the network and futureproofing for increased demand from low carbon technologies
  • We are working closely with Manchester City Council to coordinate works and minimise disruption
  • Road closures and diversions may be necessary but will be carefully planned and communicated in advance in collaboration with local authorities.
  • We are committed to keeping residents, businesses, and commuters informed every step of the way.

Work is expected to be completed by December 2025, all work has been agreed with the local authorities and Electricity North West has hand delivered letters to customers with details of any traffic management.
