Oldham investment
Electricity North West is embarking on the largest ever investment in the North West’s power network, investing over £2bn between 2023 and 2028 – including a £32m programme of improvements for Greater Manchester.

In what is a significant investment which will transform the 132,000-volt electricity infrastructure throughout Oldham and the surrounding areas, more than 42,000 homes and businesses will benefit from the new electricity supply which will see older, oil filled cables replaced with more modern cables.
- This £13m investment will significantly enhance the reliability and environmental performance of Oldham’s electricity infrastructure and eliminate oil leakage risks.
- The project supports Electricity North West’s commitment to removing oil-filled cables from the network by 2040, supporting clean growth and net zero targets.
- We are working closely with Oldham Council to coordinate works and minimise disruption.
- Road closures and diversions are necessary but will be carefully planned and communicated in advance in collaboration with local authorities.

£13m investment to enhance Oldham power network
A record investment is to be made in Oldham with £13m being spent upgrading the power network. Power network operator Electricity North West will carry out the work which will see 6km of underground cables replaced.
