Mayfield investment

£7m Mayfield Developments investment

Electricity North West is embarking on the largest ever investment in the North West’s power network, investing over £2bn between 2023 and 2028 – including a £32m programme of key projects across Greater Manchester.

We're committed to maintaining and improving the network through our capital investment programme

Engineers have commenced work which will see £7m worth of upgrades carried out on the power network in the Mayfield area of Manchester.

As part of our capital investment programme, these works will establish a new primary substation in the Mayfield area and the installation of new 33,000kW cable from Stuart Street substation to the new substation being built.

Manchester City Council have identified the site in the Mayfield area of Manchester as a strategic development site to populate the area with mixed leisure, commercial, retail and residential development. The demand at Mayfield forms part of significant development over the past 10 years.

Once complete, local homes and businesses are expected to benefit from the new and improved infrastructure along with supporting the regeneration of the area.

  • This £7m investment will future-proof Mayfield’s electricity infrastructure and improve resilience and reliability
  • The project supports ENWL’s commitment to reinforcing the network and futureproofing for increased demand from low carbon technologies
  • We are working closely with Manchester City Council and the Mayfield Development to coordinate works and minimise disruption
  • Road closures and diversions may be necessary but will be carefully planned and communicated in advance in collaboration with local authorities. There are no planned supply interuptions as part of this project
  • We are committed to keeping residents, businesses, and commuters informed every step of the way.

Work is expected to be completed by December 2027, all work has been agreed with the local authorities and Electricity North West has hand delivered letters to customers with details of any traffic management.
