Spread the warmth

With concerns around rising energy costs many people are concerned about how they can keep warm this winter and the wider impact this could have on their health.

Room temperature at least 18 degrees

The cold can thicken your blood, increasing your blood pressure. Breathing in cold air can also increase the risk of chest infections so it is really important for your health that you home is at a safe temperature. Ideally you should heat your home to at least 18C. This is particular important if you have reduced mobility, are aged 65 or over, or have a health condition.

Keep the heat in

Where you can, use heavy curtains to keep the heat inside your home. A great way to keep the heat where you need it, is to keep the doors to your living spaces closed, and if your heating system will let you, turn off the heating and keep the doors closed in the rooms you rarely use, if you worried about additional costs.

Wearing layers

Did you know a few light layers of clothing will keep you warmer than one thick layer as it helps to trap the warm air. if you can, consider using a battery powered electric blanket for extra warmth or a covered hot water bottle. Remember, never use an electric blanket and hot water bottle together.
