Cost of heat pumps

According to the Energy Saving Trust, installing a heat pump costs between £10,000 to £18,000 for a ground source system and £6,000 to £8,000 for air source, depending on the size of your property.

Although the initial cost of installation is higher than a traditional gas central heating boiler, there are a number of benefits. Fuel bills can be reduced by up to 50% and carbon emissions are much lower.

For domestic properties you may also be eligible to claim payments from the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), a government scheme which could give you quarterly payments for seven years if you install, or have already installed, renewable technology to heat your property. The equivalent non-domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), could give you payments over 20 years, based on the heat output of your system.
