Control, Operation and Maintenance
Placing the care of your high voltage system in safe hands
Our approach
At Electricity North West we are experts in dealing with high voltage equipment and will tailor our service to your particular system. Under the cover of a Control, Operation and Maintenance Agreement (COMA), we will “adopt” your high voltage plant and equipment and treat it as an integral part of our own high voltage network. This will ensure your compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and all other associated legislation.
Our Services
Entrust the work to us and your high voltage electrical system will be closely managed and maintained with all the necessary safety assurances you need, leaving you free to concentrate on your core business.
Control and Operation
Our control and operation function provides you with robust and proven safe system of work based on national standards. We equip your substations with nameplates and danger notices, and fit locks to switchgear and transformers. Access is limited to authorised personnel only. Senior authorised engineers undertake all operations and switching in accordance with Electricity North West Codes of Practice and National Distribution Safety Rules.
Planned Maintenance
Annually we will inspect and clean the substation compound, meticulously check all equipment and report our findings. We will test oil samples taken from each transformer to check for any deterioration within the unit. Associated battery and ancillary equipment also receives our full attention. In addition, at specified intervals we carry out full maintenance of the high voltage switchgear, which includes the testing of all protective devices for correct operation.
Faults and Repairs
Our experienced and highly trained operational engineers carry out repairs efficiently and quickly. Strictly complying with all current Health and Safety legislation we have vast resources to call on when carrying out this essential work. In the event of a fault or breakdown our dedicated teams can be called upon 24/7, 365 days a year. With a designated distribution network control centre, our local emergency standby engineers will respond quickly to assess the situation, make safe and then restore your supplies..
