Generation installation

We appreciate your support in providing us with generation information as it allows us to manage and maintain the network that supports your local supply.

Small Scale Embedded Generator (SSEG)
If you would like to install a SSEG unit, the installation is to be rated no greater than 16 Amps/phase.
The installer of generator must inform us of the installation within 28 days of commissioning; notifying us by completing the G83/1 stage 1 including:
- manufacturer’s type verification test report
- copy of the circuit diagram
- schedule of protections settings.
Please note that you will need contact your supplier regarding metering arrangements.
In the majority of cases, the installation of a single SSEG unit connected in parallel with our network will be acceptable with no further arrangements necessary.
Multiple generators
If you are connecting multiple generators at separate locations, please complete the G83 stage 2.
The main types of generation that are covered by a G83/1.1 include:
- Photovoltaic
- Domestic Combined Heat and Power (CHP)
- Micro Hydro power
- Fuel Cells.
If you intend to install a wind turbine you are required to complete a G59 application.

Customers with Low Voltage installations should be aware that their present terms for use of their connection to Electricity North West Distribution System may require the customer to seek and be granted prior consent from Electricity North West before any source of electricity generation is connected.
Electricity North West hereby affirm that where the Customer's present terms for use of their connection to Electricity North West Distribution System require prior consent from Electricity North West for the connection of generating equipment to the Customer's premises, Electricity North West waives that obligation in the circumstance where the intended sources of electricity generation are to be connected in parallel with Electricity North West's Low Voltage Distribution System and will have a aggregate rating of up to and including 16 ampere per phase inclusive of all existing sources of electricity generation connected within the premises, subject to the Customer ensuring that the installer (or the Customer by default) shall notify Electricity North West before or on the same day as the relevant sources of generation are connected.
For the avoidance of doubt a person installing sources of electricity generation, for which prior consent is not required from the distributor, remains statutorily obliged to notify Electricity North West in accordance with the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002 irrespective of the Customer's terms for use of their connection to the Electricity North West Distribution System.
