New distributed generation connection
If you would like to connect a generator to our network in excess of 16 amps per phase, then we will be required to carry out a network study to understand whether any reinforcement of the current design is required.
If you require further guidance, please see our distributed generation page.
The appropriate forms of application are as follows:
- a G59 part 1 for less than 5 Megawatt connection.
- part 1 & 2 for excess of a 5 Megawatt connection.
An application can only be made for full quotation with the full parameters of both the import and export details of the generator.
Note: if you wish to apply for an off shore connection please email G&PConnections@enwl.co.uk requesting an initial meeting.
Locations and costs for connections
If you are connecting at 33kV or above, please review our heat maps for guidance on locations that may not require reinforcement costs.
The following will also assist you with locations and cost estimates:
Quotation
Once the location and size of generator have been confirmed, we can provide a quotation that may take 10 to 20 days, dependent on size of connection required.
A quotation has a validity period of 3 months. After this period a further quotation would be required to accommodate any changes that may have occurred within the network.
Installation
After a quote has been received, the installation of your generator will take:
- 45 working days for a low voltage connection.
- 65 working days for a high voltage or extra high voltage connection.
All works at the 33kV or above connection level will have a single point of contact appointed to assist them through the various stages.
For all other connection sizes there will be a designer appointed for assistance at quotation stage and construction co-ordinator appointed following acceptance.
