Competition in connections

Electricity North West own, operate and maintain the local power network in the North West region. We are also responsible for providing new connections to the local network.

All connections carried out within the North West are categorised into two elements of work;

  • Non-contestable work - Work which can only be carried out by Electricity North West as the Distribution Network Operator (DNO).
  • Contestable work - Work which can be carried out by an accredited Independant Connection Provider (ICP) or Independant Distribution Network Operator (IDNO)

In order to promote 'Competition in Connections', we have provided further information in this section to help customers understand how this process works. We have also provided information which will make this process easier for both ICPs and IDNOs.
