08/07/15: Power Saver Challenge is highly commended at national award ceremony

Electricity North West’s pioneering Power Saver Challenge has been highly commended for engaging customers on sustainability at last night’s national Business in thePower Saver Challenge is highly commended at national award ceremony Community’s Responsible Business Awards.

Power network operator Electricity North West launched the Power Saver Challenge in November to help eliminate the need to build a costly new substation to cope with growing demand.

The Power Saver Challenge, the first of its kind in the country, encouraged residents in the Heaton Moor and Heaton Norris areas of Stockport to become more energy efficient. Within just three months residents had already reduced their energy usage by 10 percent, which equates to £59 on the average annual electricity bill. 

The Responsible Business Awards is the most prestigious and respected awards championing responsible business in the UK and abroad. It celebrates inspirational companies that are taking action to address social and environmental issues and transform their communities.

Paul Bircham, network strategy director for Electricity North West, said: “We’re delightedPaul Bircham, network strategy director for Electricity North West that our Power Saver Challenge was highly commended by Business in the Community at an event which celebrates responsible businesses across the UK.

“The accolade highlights the importance of the exciting new initiative which not only helped residents reduce their energy usage, and therefore lower their electricity bills, but the trial also brought the community together.”
