22/05/15: Rochdale set to benefit from major power upgrade

More than 50 electricity poles and four kilometres of overhead power lines will be removed as part of a £1.75m upgrade project in Rochdale. Rochdale set to benefit from major power upgrade

This week the region’s power network operator, Electricity North West, started the major project which will upgrade the power supply to thousands of homes and businesses by removing the power lines and also replacing 3.5km of ageing underground cables between College Road and Grasmere Road in Rochdale.

The project, which is due to be completed in September, will also replace oil-filled cables which have been in place for almost 50 years, with new environmentally-friendly and efficient cables.
50 electricity poles and four kilometres of overhead power lines will be removed as part of a £1.75m upgrade project in Rochdale
Tim Groom, head of major projects for Electricity North West, said: “This major investment will not only help secure the power supply to more than 2,000 homes and businesses in the area, but we’re also removing power lines and electricity poles which will help enhance the local landscape.

“It is also a great opportunity for us to replace ageing oil-filled cables which have the potential to impact on the local environment with new up-to-date environmentally-friendly underground power cables.

“To carry out the work safely our engineers will need to install temporary traffic lights on certain roads along the route. We understand that this can be inconvenient, but overall the project will greatly benefit customers in Rochdale not just in the near future, but for many years to come.”

There will be temporary traffic lights in place during the project:
• Clements Royd Street – 18th May to 26th May
• Heights Lane – 18th May to 28th May
• Quary Street – 29th May to 4th June
• Edmund Street – 29th May to 1st June
• Milford Street – 5th June to 8th June
• Jane Street – 5th June to 9th June
• Grasmere Street – 9th June to 15th June
• Falinge Road – 15th June to 18th June
• College Road – 16th June to 23rd June

If anyone living in the area has any queries about the project, they are advised to call Electricity North West on 0800 195 4141 or follow us @ElectricityNW.
