27/03/15: ‘Don’t be left in the dark’ warns power network

The region’s power network has just completed its biggest ever awareness campaign, following research that showed the majority of people in the North West didn’t know who to call during a power cut. ‘Don’t be left in the dark’ warns power network

Electricity North West, which owns the overhead lines and underground power cables across the region, targeted more than two million households across the North West with its winter power cut awareness campaign.

Independent research had revealed that 84 percent of customers in the region were unsure of who to call during a power cut and 57 percent wrongly believed they should contact their supplier.

In response Electricity North West launched its first customer awareness campaign reminding customers across the region to take note of who to call if a power cut does happen.

The three-month campaign targeted customers with more than 1.7million leaflets delivered direct to homes and businesses as well as newspaper, radio and online advertising.

Jonny Morgan, external communications manager, said: “Although we invest millions of pounds every year in the network to keep the lights on, sometimes power cuts can still happen due to events out of our control, like severe weather.

“It’s vital that people in the North West know that we are on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week if they need us, so they’re not left in the dark. Our customer awareness campaign has helped us get that message out. The campaign means more people now know who to contact and how to contact us whether it’s by phone, online or using social media.”

The campaign also generated more than 1000 new followers on Electricity North West’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, which offer live power-cut information 24-hours a day.
