24/06/14: Bolton pupils switch on to electricity

Pupils from Walmsley C of E Primary School, in Egerton, Bolton discovered the importance of electricity and how to stay safe during a fun-filled interactive learning day yesterday. Bolton pupils switch on to electricity with Electricity North West

During the hands-on session, organised by the region’s power network operator Electricity North West, children, aged eight and nine, enjoyed discovering how electricity is delivered to homes, important safety messages and also trying their hand at building their very own electrical circuits.

Jonathan Collins, corporate social responsibility manager for Electricity North West, said: “We were delighted to spend the day with the children and teach them about how we get electricity to their homes safely.

“Today’s school children are tomorrow’s network engineers and bill-payers, so we want to encourage them to think about how they use energy, and to open up the idea of future careers in engineering.”

Dawn Lindley, year 4 class teacher, said: “We were delighted to welcome Electricity North West to school and the Bright Sparks session was a huge success with the children.

“All the children had a great day and they can now take away with them the importance of electricity, how to be safe around electricity and also their own responsibilities when they are older.”
