A £2.7million investment project to upgrade the power supply to more than 24,000 homes and businesses in Oldham is now under way. Multimillion-pound project brings electricity upgrade to Oldham

Engineers from the region’s power network operator, Electricity North West, will rebuild 9.2km of aging overhead power lines and replace one electricity pylon on Foxdenton Lane which has been in place for more than 50 years.

The project, which will be completed by the end of August, will help ensure customers between Chadderton and Royton receive a reliable and efficient power supply now and in the future.

Tim Groom, major projects manager for Electricity North West, said: “We are delighted to have started this major project which will bring great benefits to the residents of Oldham.

“The power lines have served the area well for many years and this work ensures that we can provide a safe, reliable and efficient electricity supply to the area for many years to come.”

Chadderton central councillor Eddie Moores, said: “I am delighted to see work beginning on this major project which will have huge benefits in terms of the future electricity supply to local residents and businesses.

“I look forward to seeing the project move forward and I’m pleased that Electricity North West is investing in our area to help deliver an ever improving service for local residents.”

Any disruption will be kept to a minimum and there will be no road closures or supply interruptions during this essential project.
