13/02/14: Severe weather update 15:00
We have successfully restored power to more than 18,000 customers since the severe weather hit our region last night.
We have more than 400 engineers, tree cutters and linesmen working today and we have drafted in extra staff and contractors who will be working throughout the day repairing the damage and getting the remaining 1,900 customers back on as soon as possible. We’re currently aware of 250 separate faults and when we complete repairs we are often finding futher faults on the same circuits.
At the peak of the storm last night, which followed a Met Office red weather warning for wind, 11,000 properties were without power across the North West.
Conditions are still making it difficult for engineers to access some sites due to trees blocking roads, and the wind has also prevented linesmen in some areas from climbing poles to restore supplies.
The wind had blown trees and debris into overhead power lines and snapped electricity poles in a number of areas.
Daylight has uncovered that the extreme wind has caused more damage than originally thought, meaning that there are multiple repairs needed on some lines but we are continuing to work around the clock to repair the damage and restore supplies as quickly as possible.
If you see power lines down, do not approach them. Call us immediately on 0800 195 4141 or email us at [email protected]
