30/08/13: Powerful boost for Oldham’s electricity network

A £42k project to upgrade the local electricity network in Oldham will soon get under way.

Electricity North West, the company that owns and maintains the regional power network, will be carrying out the work from 16th September in the Ladhill Lane, Greenfield area of the town.

Engineers are replacing an aging cable bridge which has been in place for more than 50 years with new up-to-date equipment which will ensure 2,000 local residents continue to receive a reliable power supply.

Mark Williamson, area manager for Electricity North West, said: “This project will help secure the supply of electricity to local residents and businesses in Oldham for many years to come.

“It is vital that we replace and upgrade this equipment, which has been in place since 1960, to ensure customers continue to receive the power they need.”

Ladhill Lane will be closed from 16th September until 25th October 2013 and diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Mark added: “Unfortunately it’s not possible to work on the network without a little disruption, but we will keep any disruption to a minimum.”

If anyone living in the area has any queries about the project, they are advised to call Electricity North West on 0800 195 4141.
