01/07/13: Hundreds benefit from power upgrade in Kirkham

A £42k project to upgrade the local electricity network in Kirkham, Lancashire has been successfully completed.

Electricity North West, the company that owns and maintains the regional power network, has replaced aging equipment, which has been in place for 40 years, with new up-to-date switchgear at two local substations.

The project, which started on Monday 17th June, was completed in three days, a day earlier than expected. Engineers were also able to install generators to ensure disruption was kept to a minimum for customers.

Lee Maxwell, area manager for Electricity North West, said: “To ensure our customers receive the power they need it is essential we proactively replace and upgrade our equipment across the North West.

“The work completed last week will help secure the supply of electricity to more than 200 local residents and businesses in Kirkham for years to come.

“We are delighted we were able to complete the project early and keep any disruption to a minimum.”
