28/11/12: Dove stone reservoir

RSBP have agreed a partnership programme to manage and improve the local habitat at Dove Stone in an attempt to encourage a more diverse wildlife and bird population.

Part of their work involves clearing sections of evergreen coniferous woodland which offers a limited habitat for a small number of bird species; and replanting these areas with a variety of indigenous deciduous trees.

The first part of the day was spent planting young trees in an area that had previously been destroyed by a grass fire but was now recovering well. Then it was off to the woods and after a quick demonstration on tree felling the team set about clearing an area of small conifers. Hard work but an enjoyable day out in beautiful surroundings.
