31/07/2012: £300,000 of electricity improvements for Colne

Work has started on a major investment programme to improve the electricity supply to more than 3,000 homes and businesses in Colne.

Electricity North West, the company which owns and maintains the regional power network, is investing £379,000 to reinforce the local supply by installing additional cables along a two and a half kilometre stretch of Langroyd Road.

The new cables are designed to manage larger quantities of electricity and are more reliable and easier to repair, meaning less disruption and faster reconnections for residents.

The project is part of a rolling programme of investment which Electricity North West is carrying out across Lancashire to update and improve the local electricity infrastructure.

Lee Maxwell, regional manager at Electricity North West, said: “These works are an important step in future-proofing the region’s electricity network. Demand is increasing all the time, which places new pressures on the local infrastructure.

"By investing now, we are ensuring that Colne has a reliable and secure electricity network which will deliver long-term benefits to local residents and businesses.

“We have planned all work carefully with Lancashire County Council to minimise any disruption and we’re happy to answer any questions from local people.”

The eight-week engineering programme will include a small number of temporary road closures at Eamott Lane, Long Lane from 12th August and Old Skipton Road from 20th August. Temporary traffic signals will be put in place at Byron Road and manually operated at peak times to minimise traffic delays.
