23/06/12: Severe weather update
Electricity North West has drafted in extra engineers to respond to a number of faults caused by the heavy rainfall across the region.
The downpour disrupted power in localised parts of the North West, particularly in Lancashire and Greater Manchester, affecting supplies to around 1,000 customers.
In Wigan supplies to 22 properties were disconnected for safety reasons as homes were evacuated because of rising flood water.
Engineers will be visiting each of those homes individually and aim to restore mains supplies as families return to the properties in Beresford Street and Gorman Street. Residents will also be recommended to check the internal wiring of their homes.
Mark Williamson, Electricity North West’s engineering services manager, said: “The extremely heavy rainfall caused more than 70 faults. These have generally only affected a small number of customers at a time, but are spread out across the region.
“We have brought in extra engineers this morning and are responding to faults as quickly as possible and thank people for their patience as we carry out the repairs."
