04/04/12: Power restoration update following severe weather

Electricity North West engineers have been working throughout the day to restore supplies to homes and business affected by heavy snowfall in the region last night.

This evening, we have restored power to more than 2,800 of the 4,500 properties affected, but weather conditions still leave some roads impassable making it extremely difficult for engineers to reach and repair damaged overhead lines.

Extra engineers have been mobilised and planned work suspended to allow us concentrate on restoring supplies to as many customers as we can, as quickly as we can this evening.

Unfortunately, where road closures remain in place it may not be possible to restore supplies to all customers tonight.

The High Peak area remains particularly badly affected by the weather and our engineers are still working to repair significant faults in the following areas:

  • Buxton
  • Chapel-en-le-Frith
  • Hadfield
  • Hayfield
  • Ashbourne
  • Glossop
  • Smalldale
  • Greenfield, Oldham
  • Stalybridge
  • Shaw

We would like to thank customers for their patience today and would ask them to bear with us while the repair work is completed. Updates on the progress can be found on our website and through the local media.

For customers currently without electricity we would advise taking a number of simple steps to minimise disruption such as turning off any electricity appliances which may have been in use, having a battery torch to hand and trying to keep at least one room warm.
