Who we are

ENW sign

We own the regional electricity distribution network in the North West of England, taking power from the National Grid, and distributing it at lower voltages to business and domestic customers.

There are 14 distribution networks in Great Britain, which are operated by six companies. Every other company which owns a network, owns more than one.

Electricity North West only owns and operates the network in the North West of England. That means that any money we invest, we only invest in the North West. We're completely focused on our region.

  • 55% of our customers live in Greater Manchester
  • 30% of our customers live in Lancashire
  • 10% of our customers live in Cumbria
  • 5% of our customers live in Cheshire, Derbyshire and North Yorkshire.

Electricity North West is a private limited company registered in England and Wales and operates the network under a licence from Ofgem.

We are owned by a consortium of funds controlled by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and IIF International Holding GP Limited which is a constituent of JP Morgan Infrastructure Investments Fund.
