Low Voltage Integrated Automation (LoVIA)

LoVIA builds on elements of our voltage management and network solutions projects. Smart joints on the LV network measure voltage levels which are fed back to the distribution substation. A remote terminal unit (RTU) at the substation automatically assesses the voltage levels and sends commands to a tap changer to regulate the voltage.

This project has successfully shown that an integrated and coordinated voltage control system can be deployed at distribution substations to provide more refined management of voltages on the LV systems. This will support the increased numbers of carbon technologies being connected to the network.

This project ran from April 2013 – September 2014.
