24/07/15: 20,000 Chorley residents set to benefit from £150,000 power investment

WorkmenCustomers in Chorley are set to benefit from a £150,000 investment to upgrade and improve the power supply to their homes and businesses.

Last week the region’s power network operator, Electricity North West, started to install over three kilometres of new improved underground electricity telecommunications cable between Woodfield Road to Shaw Brow in Whittle-le-Woods.

The project, which is due to be completed in September, will replace aging cables which have been in place for more than 40 years with new modern and efficient fibre cables.

Paul Geddes, head of IT and telecommunications for Electricity North West, said: “Keeping the lights on for our customers is our top priority and this major investment will benefit thousands of customers in Chorley and make a real difference in the area.

“Our investment programme helps us improve the reliability of the electricity network so we can keep delivering power for many years to come.

“Unfortunately there is no way to install new underground cables without some disruption, but we hope drivers and residents in the area understand the need for this essential project and we promise to keep any disruption to a minimum."

There will be temporary traffic lights in place during the project which will be manned during peak times:

  • Shaw Brow near the junction of Preston Road – 5th August to 10th August
  • New Moss Lane opposite the BP Garage on Preston Road – 12th August to 17th August
  • Preston Road near the Sea View Inn – 17th August to 22nd August
  • Park Road to Chorley Hall Road (lane closure) – 24th September to 26th September

There will also be one-day road closures on:

  • Woodfield Road and Millfield Road – 20th September (Sunday)
  • Chorley Hall Road – 27th September (Sunday)

If anyone living in the area has any queries about the project, they are advised to call Electricity North West on 0800 195 4141 or follow @ElectricityNW.
